Spoiler alert! This story contains details from Season 5 of “The Boys,” which premieres on Amazon Prime Video on Wednesday, April 8.

Fans of “The Boys” are gearing up for their fifth and final season, and this time producers have promised viewers “big stuff,” including one character’s plan to wipe out the planet’s superheroes.

Season 5 of the Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios show will premiere April 8, and include eight episodes total, the Amazon-owned production and distribution company confirmed to USA TODAY.

"The Boys", which stars Erin Moriarty, Karl Urban, Jake Quaid, Antony Starr, Jensen Ackles, Chace Crawford, Jessie T. Usher and Laz Alonso, follows a core group of New Yorkers who encounter superheroes, except they don’t exactly use their powers for good, Sony Pictures Television said online about the show.

“Intent on stopping the corrupt superheroes, The Boys, a group of vigilantes, continue their heroic quest to expose the truth about … the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages the superheroes and covers up their dirty secrets,” Sony Pictures Television continued on its website.

Chace Crawford as The Deep, Antony Starr as Homelander, and Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir in the Amazon Studios series "The Boys."

The satirical series premiered in 2019 and is based on the New York Times best-selling comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, both of whom executive produce the show.

This final season will focus on antagonist Homelander (Starr), while vigilantes Hughie (Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Alonso) and Frenchie (Tomer Capone) are stuck in a “Freedom Camp.” Also appearing is Billy Butcher (Urban), the vigilante group’s founder, Amazon MGM Studios said, adding that Butcher wants to kill every superhero on the planet.

“He sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it,” the studio wrote. “It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen.”

“The Boys” may be coming to an end, but there have been multiple spinoffs of the series, including a prequel that has yet to be released.

There’s “Gen V,” set at Godolkin University, a superhero-only college where students train to be superheroes.

There’s also “The Boys Presents: Diabolical,” an animated, adult anthology series that takes viewers into the universe of “The Boys,” telling the superheroes’ stories “with a fistful of insanity,” Amazon MGM Studios said.

Both series are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video, and they’ll soon be joined by “Vought Rising,” a prequel to “The Boys".
