But her latest action has changed the actor’s life forever after she decided to cut him off completely, including his surname. The 20-year-old made it official by legally removing “Cruise” from her title and changing it to Noelle, according to Page Six.
Despite her decision, the Digger star is not holding a grudge and understands her sentiments. A source told Radar about the developments as Cruise is coping with the emotional blow from his daughter.
Insider Details Tom Cruise’s Emotional State After Daughter’s Official Name Change
According to exclusive reports from Page Six, Suri Cruise, the daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, officially ended her ties with her estranged father. She legally changed her name, dropping Cruise and changing her surname to Noelle. The report was confirmed when public records showed that she had registered for the change in Pennsylvania.
She applied for the name change in 2024, during her first year at Carnegie Mellon University. She had also registered in Allegheny County under her new name, indicating that the change is official and Suri Noelle is her legal name.
The outlet also confirmed that the 20-year-old did not file the request in Allegheny
County, indicating that she had done it in New York before leaving for college. However, it remains unclear when Suri Noelle became her legal name, but she had been using it publicly for many years.
In a separate report from Radar, a source close to the family told the outlet that Tom Cruise is “deeply saddened” by her action. “While he understands Suri is an adult making her own decisions, seeing his surname disappear from her legal identity has been incredibly painful for him,” they added. “He never imagined things would reach this point.”

They continued that people close to Cruise believe that Noelle’s move dealt him an “emotional blow” rather than a “legal one.” Despite their misunderstanding, he still cared for her enormously and hoped that one day they would have the “opportunity to rebuild their relationship.” As of now, he is heartbroken and devastated by her actions, irrespective of their differences.
Suri Noelle Changed Surname to Have Her ‘Own Identity’
In a different report from Page Six, a source told the outlet that Suri Noelle’s decision to change her name was a way to honor her mother, Katie Holmes. They explained that dropping Cruise from her name and using Noelle had a deeper meaning than merely severing ties with the Top Gun actor.
The insider said, “She is showing praise for her mother by using her middle name.” They also speculated that she wanted to make the change because she wanted to have her “own identity.” Additionally, a new name would help her avoid the paparazzi and allow her to “start fresh at college.”
She has been using the same name in high school as well, as she felt that Tom Cruise had “no part” to play in her life. The Batman Begins star said that she felt “very blessed” to have a special daughter like her, calling her the “greatest gift” and a “privilege” to be her mother.
