Diamonds are the Colberts' best friends!

Stephen Colbert, 61, demonstrated his impeccable taste in jewels on the Thursday, Feb. 5 episode of The Late Show when he invited his wife, Evie McGee Colbert, to join him on air as part of his comedic "First Drafts" segment. Stephen — who has been married to the actress for more than three decades — had a surprise in store for Evie: a tell-tale Tiffany Blue box.

"Of course it wouldn't be Valentine's Day," Stephen began, already shouting over building applause, "without my wife, Evie!"

Cheers erupted as Evie, clad in a ruched pink floral dress, walked on stage, and the actress greeted her husband with a kiss before waving to the crowd.

Even though there were still nine days until Valentine's Day, Stephen apparently couldn't wait another second to present Evie with a large, square Tiffany box — and Evie's eyes widened at the sight of it. The pair playfully squabbled about who got to open the gift, and ultimately Stephen untied the bow and undid the package to reveal a stunning Tiffany & Co. necklace.

"This is real. This is from Tiffany," Stephen said, as he unveiled the sparkling necklace, a bold statement piece featuring unique chain links featuring tons of pave diamonds.

"Holy s***!" Evie gasped as she grew giddy with joy. "Can I touch it?" she asked, though Stephen did her one better as he stood to drape the necklace around her. "Happy Valentine's Day," he added as Evie beamed.

"Who'd you have to rob to pay for this?" Evie joked. She then mused aloud if he (or she) did something wrong, speculating that the necklace may have been some sort of apology gift.

Once Stephen clarified that no, he didn't do anything wrong and no, it wasn't an extra sparkly apology, he revealed the catch: the necklace is a loan from Tiffany, which sent a set of "armed guards" to protect the necklace for the seven minutes it hung around Evie's neck (or "however long the joke lasts," Stephen added).

Evie let out a huge laugh as Stephen said, "That's, like, a quarter of a million-dollar necklace," His wife immediately joked, "Take it off!"

Stephen then made light of his show's soon-approaching end, which parent company CBS decided to conclude in May 2026 as a "purely financial decision," per its announcement in July 2025.

"I was going to charge [the necklace] to CBS, but they seem a little tight on cash right now," Stephen joked, drawing raucous laughter from the audience.

Later in the segment, Stephen and Evie — who tied the knot in October 1993 and have since welcomed three children together — read off the list of qualities that the actress's 12-year-old self once considered to make the "perfect guy."

Her ideal man would have a "good personality" and be a person with humor, generosity, kindness. He should also be "daring" and "fun-loving" — and last but not least, Evie once wrote, he should be an "all-out man."

To that, Stephen dramatically whipped off his glasses, stared into the camera and said, "I'm an all-in man."
