A report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office obtained by TMZ disclosed new details about the *Lizzie McGuire* star's behavior prior to his Feb. 23 death by suicide at 71.

The outlet reported that Carradine's daughter told investigators her father had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and had grappled with mental health issues for two decades. The report also indicated he was taking multiple medications and struggled with severe depression and anxiety, per TMZ.

The *Revenge of the Nerds* actor was reportedly experiencing suicidal ideation in the days leading up to his death, so he checked himself into a psychiatric hospital in Los Angeles where he had previously been treated. The day after he checked in, an employee found him unresponsive in his room following an apparent suicide attempt.

Carradine was subsequently taken to an intensive care unit after medical personnel attempted to resuscitate him, as he was in cardiac arrest when he was found. TMZ also reported that the actor did not appear to leave a suicide note.

Carradine ultimately died weeks after the incident. Records from the medical examiner reviewed by ** listed his causes of death as sequelae of anoxic brain injury and hanging.

The actor's brother, *Nashville* star Keith Carradine, discussed his sibling's mental health in a statement to Deadline after his passing.

Carradine's family also provided a statement to Deadline at the time of his death.

"In a world that can feel so dark, Bobby was always a beacon [of] light to everyone around him," they said. "We are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby's valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with bipolar disorder. We hope his journey can shine a light and encourage addressing the stigma that attaches to mental illness. At this time we ask for the privacy to grieve this unfathomable loss. With gratitude for your understanding and compassion."
