After that viral incident during a Coldplay concert last year, you’d be forgiven for thinking celebrities would shy away from being caught on a Jumbotron. But during a sporting match over the weekend, Princess Anne had a hilarious reaction when she found herself on the big screen.

The Princess Royal was in Italy for the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics over the past weekend. And during her visit, she stopped by Rome for the Guinness Six Nations 2026 match between Italy and Scotland.

As the longtime patron of the Scottish Rugby Union, and a big fan of the game (her son-in-law is even a retired rugby player!), Princess Anne’s attendance at the match was no surprise. The same can’t be said for her time on the Jumbotron, however.

During the game, Princess Anne was projected on the Jumbotron, but she remained completely oblivious until it was pointed out to her. Her reaction? A bashful laugh … and a roaring cheer from the crowd.

A video of the royal moment quickly went viral on social media afterwards. “During an injury break at the Italy v Scotland game in Rome, the camera switched to show Princess Anne, and the crowd erupted with cheers for her!” someone said on X. “She didn’t realise the cheers were for her until someone told her.”

“She’s fabulous. A great credit to the royal family and the country,” said X user @5MinuteTrade in response. “She’s always had her mother’s grace and grit,” agreed @connieleah, as @mypeanut733 commented: “My favourite royal.”

“Good to see,” added @steady_profits. “She is one of the few royals that most people seem to have a respect and fondness for.”
