Prince Louis has delighted royal watchers at the monarch's birthday parade since making his Trooping the Colour debut in 2019

Prince Louis had to get a better look during the most thrilling moment of Trooping the Colour.

The British royal family stepped out in full force on Saturday, June 13, for the official celebration of King Charles' birthday. After a parade through London and a military display, they gathered on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the day's grand finale: a flypast performed by the British Air Force.

Kate Middleton and Prince William's three children — Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8 — were the youngest of the royals on the balcony, and they watched with excitement as the planes soared overhead.

At one point, Prince Louis was photographed leaning far away from the rest of his family — likely to get a better look at the approaching aircraft. He took a few steps to the side and bent over with his mouth open in awe.

Princess Kate, 44, previously revealed that all of her children are fascinated by planes and other aircraft. After the royal's 2021 visit to the RAF Brize Norton airbase, Loadmaster Sergeant Mark Curtis told PEOPLE, "She did mention that her children are very interested in aircraft."

The family has been seen attending air shows in recent years, and every year at Trooping the Colour, the Prince and Princess of Wales' children watch intently as the flypast takes place. In past years, Prince George has been seen talking to his dad about the planes and pointing out certain aircraft.

The kids' interest in aircraft follows in their father's footsteps. Prince William, 43, worked as a helicopter pilot, serving as a search and rescue pilot in the Royal Air Force and as an emergency helicopter pilot for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Prince Louis is now a Trooping the Colour pro, having made his debut on the Buckingham Palace balcony in 2019. The baby prince then made waves for his enthusiastic waves as he was held by both his mom and dad.

He has continued to delight onlookers in the years since, with hilarious moments like dramatically covering his ears due to the noise, to the amusement of Queen Elizabeth, and pulling out some dance moves.

This year, Prince Louis rode in a horse-drawn carriage with his mom and siblings for the procession through London. After watching the military display from a window above Horse Guards' Parade, the family made the return trip to Buckingham Palace for the flypast finale.

Sporting a light blue tie with his suit, Louis stylishly coordinated with Princess Kate, Prince George and Princess Charlotte (whose white dress featured light blue details).

Trooping the Colour marks the public celebration of King Charles' birthday, although the monarch's actual birthday is in November (the reason for the summer celebration is quite logical: a higher chance of better weather).

Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis joined the royals for their annual Easter church outing earlier this year, making Trooping the Colour their second major appearance of the year.
