King Charles’ Charming Reaction to a 7-Year-Old Girl’s Portrait Draws Attention

A young girl gifted King Charles a portrait drawing as he arrived at Sandringham. He warmly greeted her, thanked her for the gift, and joked about his appearance in the drawing. This warm meeting comes weeks after King Charles’ emotional reunion with his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

King Charles has a cheeky response to receiving a gift

On Sunday, July 26, King Charles was on his way to St. Mary the Virgin Church on his Sandringham estate. That’s when he came across a seven-year-old girl, Olivia Rickards, and her father, Terence. Rickards gifted the monarch a lovely portrait of him, which featured him sporting a suit and tie. Around it, the image had pink hearts and Xs, as described by The Telegraph. Moreover, the girl also penned a brief message for the king. It read, “Dear King Charles, thank you for looking after England. You do a wonderful job.”

King Charles accepted the gift and thanked the little girl, followed by a funny comment about himself. He said, “At least I’m smiling in the picture” (via People). For those unversed, the monarch has a great interest in painting, specifically with watercolors. Earlier, he explained what appeals to him about painting instead of any other creative hobbies.

“I took up painting entirely because I found photography less than satisfying. Quite simply, I experienced an overwhelming urge to express what I saw through the medium of watercolor and to convey that almost ‘inner’ sense of texture, which is impossible to achieve via photography,” he said. The monarch further detailed the challenges of painting well and dealing with the frustration when one is unable to recreate on the page the perfect scene that the eyes capture.

“I am under no illusion that my sketches represent great art or a burgeoning talent! On the contrary, they represent, more than anything else, my particular form of ‘photograph album’ and, as such, means a great deal to me,” King Charles further stated (via Newsner).
