Chris Pratt and wife Katherine Schwarzenegger went into their marriage with some things having already been decided.

The *Guardians of the Galaxy* star explained the couple attended counseling before their 2019 wedding where they came up with a "list of directives" to keep the peace.**

"A part of getting married at St. Monica [Catholic] Church is doing premarital counseling," Pratt said during an appearance on his *Parks and Recreation* costar Rob Lowe's *Literally! With Rob Lowe* podcast. "We did like six sessions with this guy who was, by the way, the best thing in the world."

The actor was especially appreciative of how the counseling prepared them to deal with issues that might come up later.

"If you're somebody who's thinking of getting married, you should definitely follow this," he advised. "They ask you questions you would not even think to answer until you've been married for eight years and then something comes up, and you're like, 'What do you mean? That's what you think about that?' And then you have to negotiate it then. Like re-negotiating every landmine. It was really great."

He said the result was that they "came up with this whole list of directives that we were gonna have in our partnership and in our wedding."**

The point was that the discussion allowed them to bypass potential disagreements. For instance, there was the subject of a certain holiday that's particularly important to Schwarzenegger, the daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver.

"One of them was that we were gonna play Christmas music on Nov. 1, and that we were gonna take the Christmas tree down Dec. 26," he revealed. "We talked about it beforehand. So now we're on board," Pratt said.**

Then, he said, there's not an argument on your first Christmas as a married couple, because the situation has already been diffused.**

"And that way, if you have an issue, you talk about it, and you hash it out, every single one," Pratt continued. "If you agree on it, you move on. But if there's things you disagree on, you hash it out, and you do the work" to figure out where the other person is coming from.

Lowe, who's been married to Sheryl Beroff since 1991, commented that the counseling sounded like "a great idea."

Pratt was previously married to actress Ana Farris from 2009 to 2018, and they share one son, 13-year-old Jack. He and Schwarzenegger are the parents of three children together: 5-year-old daughter Lyla, 3-year-old daughter Eloise, and son Ford, who's 1.**
