Chiefs WR Coach Chad O'Shea on the qualities of a promising receiver
Kansas City Chiefs wide receivers coach Chad O'Shea spoke with the media recently at OTAs. He talked about other qualities of wide receiver Xavier Worthy that make him a great player.
"Yeah, I think the first thing is what you don't see, and that's off the field. I mean, he is tremendous in the classroom," said O'Shea. "His preparation so far has been outstanding. He's very coachable. He's not an error-repeater, so we correct mistakes, and he moves on very quickly. That is something I don't think you see when someone is watching the film or watching from the stands: how good he is in his preparation. That's number one."
Kansas City hired Chad O'Shea earlier in the offseason to serve as its new wide receivers coach. He notably spent years working with Edelman on the Patriots' staff from 2008 to 2018 under head coach Bill Belichick. He most recently worked for the Cleveland Browns as a wide receivers coach & passing game coordinator from 2020 to 2025.

"Number two, I've been very impressed with his ball skills. He catches the ball very well at all three levels – short, intermediate, and obviously, the deep passes, which you guys saw some of that today that we were able to connect on some of those," said O'Shea. "So, I mean, his preparation, who he is, and what he brings to the table are outstanding, like I said. Then, probably his ball skills just jump out at me. I obviously know about the speed, but I was excited at how well he's caught the ball."
Worthy was projected to be a significant part of Kansas City's game plan last season, but that was derailed in Week 1 after an accidental collision with teammate Travis Kelce. He finished the 2025 season with 42 receptions for 532 yards and a touchdown. He also had 11 rushes for 87 yards in 14 games played.
